We include Pastor Rolland Starr (1925-2020) and Cornerstone Baptist Church of Belmont, Massachusetts, as an example of fundamental Baptist churches in the north that were not connected with the various associations. Cornerstone was simply an independent fundamental Baptist church. We will see that Pastor Starr, like many independent Baptist preachers, was not in any “circle.”
I preached at a Bible conference at Cornerstone in 1988, and at the time it was a life-changing church with forthright, biblical preaching, an emphasis on a regenerated church membership, sacred music (the church has a pipe organ), the imminent return of Christ, a strong stand for the truth, separated holiness in Christian living, soul-winning zeal, and a vision for world missions. William Bell (W.B.) Riley (1861-1947) was the most prominent leader of fundamental Baptists in the North.

Tom Wallace Last of the Old Breed - May 13
Tom Wallace is one of the few fundamental Baptist “mega preachers” of the 1970s who is still alive and ministering today. As of 2025, he is 95.
(Old age reminds me of the optimist who fell off of the Empire State Building. As he was falling past the 95th floor, he was heard to say, “So far, so good!”)
The last time I heard Tom Wallace preach was in the 1970s. Recently I became aware that he is still at it. Though acclaimed as a “prince among us” by some and though a doer of many good things, he reminds me of the unscriptural program I witnessed at Highland Park Baptist Church as a Tennessee Temple student in the 1970s: big numbers-ism, big man-ism, boasting, quick prayerism, biblically shallow preaching, a mixed multitude church membership instead of a regenerate membership, lack of serious discipleship, a focus on externalism, neglect of church discipline, the church more an evangelistic.. see full report

“A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished” (Proverbs 22:3).
We are witnessing a great blending and merging among every type of church, from fundamentalism to Catholicism, which will culminate in the totally apostate harlot “church” that will be aligned with the antichrist (Revelation 17-18).
Even fundamental Baptists are merging. Fundamental Baptist churches today, in general, are radically different in character from what they were when I was saved in 1973. They are no from Southern Baptists who have not practiced biblical separation since the 1800s.
What is happening among fundamental Baptist churches at large is exactly what happened within evangelicalism in the 1950s. It is the rejection of .. see full report

In the book Money for Nothing: One Man’s Journey through the Dark Side of Lottery Millions, Edward Ugle says the “broke or financially troubled lottery winners are the rule.” According to the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, nearly one-third of all lottery winners end up broke (“Lottery’s Lucky Losers,” The Valley Times, September 2008).
Lottery winners who end up destitute happens so often it is called “the lottery curse.”
This proves the truth of the Bible.
“Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase” (Pr.13:11).
“Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes” (Pr. 19:10).

D.L. Moody’s Evangelistic Crusades vs. Pentecost - April 24
D.L. Moody is the most prominent evangelist in recent American history, and his influence is still widespread.
With some exceptions, Moody’s preaching typically had little biblical depth, ignored such basic principles as analyzing the context, defining words, and comparing Scripture with Scripture. Moody’s preaching consisted largely of a string of heart-tugging stories; and it was accompanied by a quick and shallow invitation program. This is a perfect recipe for empty professions, and that is exactly what has come from it, in large part, and the percentage of empty professions has increased through the decades.
There were great numbers of professions recorded in Moody’s campaigns (e.g., 7,000 Edinburgh, 12,000 Philadelphia, 8,000 New York, 10,000 Chicago), but the sad fact is that the campaigns were.. see full report
