August 16, 1996 (Fundamental Baptist News Service, 1701 Harns Rd., Oak Harbor, WA 98277) - The following is from the Calvary Contender, August 1, 1996:

Dr. Bill Rudd, the new chairman of the General Association of Regular Baptists' Council of Eighteen, is sending church members to Promise Keepers rallies. According to the Muskegon [Mich.] Chronicle (5/10/96) Rudd's associate pastor, Eric Strattan, "traveled with two bus loads of men sponsored by Calvary Baptist Church last year to attend the Promise Keepers rally in the [Pontiac, Michigan] Silverdome." This year the church planned to send three bus loads to the Silverdome rally in May.

Mark Jackson, the GARB C's outgoing interim national representative, wrote in his final column in the Baptist Bulletin (6/96) that Promise Keepers' Chicago rally was "openly ecumenical" and "it is hard to understand how so many of our Regular Baptist men are unwittingly involved" (Calvary Contender, 8/1/96).
