According to the December 1995 issue of the Charismatic Roman Catholic publication New Covenant, a Promise Keepers group is being formed in a Catholic parish in Tallahassee, Florida. This information was contained in a letter from Bob McGuire which New Covenant published. Consider some excerpts:
"With regard to the suggestion that we Catholics form our own version of Promise Keepers: First, it would take a herculean effort to replicate Promise Keepers. Second, such an effort would fly in the face of Vatican II. ...
"Rather than duplicate the success of Promise Keepers to build the spirituality of Catholic men, the Catholic Church should get involved with Promise Keepers and encourage Catholic men to participate....
"I don't think the leaders of Promise Keepers have it in their heart or mind to exclude Catholic men from participation, OR TO ENCOURAGE THEM TO LEAVE THE CATHOLIC CHURCH."
It is significant that this Roman Catholic, who has been observing Promise Keepers for some time, discerns that Promise Keepers will not cause Catholics to leave Romanism.
