PROMISE KEEPERS DRAWS WIDE PRAISE
November 21, 1997 (David W. Cloud, Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061-0368, fbns@wayoflife.org) - It is interesting to see how widespread is the praise of the Promise Keepers movement. The massive Stand in the Gap rally in Washington D.C. last month occasioned comments from a wide variety of influential people. President Bill Clinton praised Promise Keepers, saying that that "no one can question the sincerity of the hundreds of thousands of men ... who are willing to reassume their responsibilities to their families and their children and to our future." The racist Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan said that the Stand in the Gap rally was a noble thing and was something that he endorsed. National talk show host Rush Limbaugh has had many positive comments about the Promise Keepers movement. On the popular KVI talk radio station in Seattle, Washington, several of the talk show hosts praised Promise Keepers. John Carlson, a Roman Catholic, said Promise Keepers is a wonderful thing for this country. Another talk show host, Jewish rabbi Daniel Lapin, also had high praise for Promise Keepers. These men are not friends of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. The pompous and ribald Rush Limbaugh does not believe in the new birth. Louis Farrakhan has claimed that he himself is Christ. Rabbi Lapin, though kind toward Christians in general, would absolutely deny that Jesus Christ is the only Lord and Savior. John Carlson does not believe the Bible is the perfect Word of God and does not believe the Bible should settle every matter. Why, then, do these men rejoice in Promise Keepers? The Lord Jesus Christ warned: "Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets" (Luke 6:26). He also said: "If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you" (John 15:19). There are roughly 80 articles at the Way of Life web site which expose the unbiblical nature of the Promise Keepers movement. We desperately need men who will be good Christian husbands and fathers and who will build strong homes which are the backbone of the church and nation. Even more than this, though, we need men who will obey the Word of God in ALL matters, including the separation from false teachers and from last days apostasy. We need men of spiritual discernment who can know the difference between truth and error, between the true gospel and the false.
