This is the Bible publishing ministry of Baptist Mid Missions. It must be noted that they do not base their translations strictly upon the Received Text underlying the King James Bible. I was told several years ago by Frederic Carlson that they sometimes follow "Majority Text" variations on the Received Text. The society's policy statement does not specify a particular Greek text, saying simply, "While many texts in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, and many versions in English and other languages may be consulted, final decisions on textual content are based on the Massoretic text of the Old Testament and the Majority Text of the New Testament." The term Majority Text used to be synonymous with the Received Text underlying the KJV, but this is not the case today. The Hodges-Farstad Majority Text was published by Thomas Nelson in 1982. It contains roughly 1,900 modifications of the Received Text. The Hodges-Farstad methodology consults Greek manuscript evidence alone and ignores other important evidence such as the lectionaries, translations, and writings of ancient church leaders. Another list of alleged Majority Text readings is contained in back of the Interlinear Bible by Jay Green. He lists roughly 1,500 variations from the Received Text. We have also been concerned about Bibles International's participation in ecumenical Bible society meetings. Since 1990 they have participated in a series of ecumenical meetings which had their origin at the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization Congress in Manila in July 1989, where representatives of Bible organizations agreed to hold regular meetings to discuss co-operation in Bible work. The first was held in Horsleys Green, England, October 1990. Other participants include the the Bible League, Bibles to All, Evangel Bible Translators, Every Home for Christ, Institute for Bible Translation, International Bible Society (which merged with Living Bibles International a few years ago), Lutheran Bible Translators, Open Doors, Pioneer Bible Translators, Scripture Gift Mission, Scripture Union, the United Bible Societies, Vida Life Publishers, WEC International, World Gospel Crusades, and Wycliffe Bible Translators. The United Bible Societies, which yokes together 135 national Bible societies, is radically ecumenical and works with the World Council of Churches and the Roman Catholic Church throughout the world. They use the critical Greek text and, like Wycliffe Bible Translators, are given over to the dynamic equivalency method of translation. For Bibles International to participate in such an affair is a dangerous sign. Having said all of this, it is also true that the Bibles International translations are vastly superior to the standard ones being produced by the United Bible Societies. In many languages the choice of Bibles is severely limited.
